SRINAGAR: The winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up to receive a fleet of 100 e-buses starting from August, as part of the Smart City Project Limited. These electric buses, provided by TATA, are expected to play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and promoting a cleaner environment. Rahul Yadav, Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation, confirmed the procurement of 100 e-buses, stating, “In total 100 e-buses are being procured.” Yadav, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), elaborated, “For Jammu city, 75 (9-meter model) e-buses are arriving in August, and 25 (12-meter) vehicles will be deployed outside Jammu district.” The entire fleet is set to arrive in the coming days, and after successful trials in August, these eco-friendly buses will be put into operation. The e-buses will significantly enhance the reliability, comfort, and affordability of public transport, incorporating advanced safety features like panic buttons, location tracking systems, CCTV, and stop request systems. To streamline the ticketing process, the official announced, “Online metros, mobility cards, and digital payment systems would be introduced for e-buses to replace paper tickets.” Additionally, a fully-equipped bus-stand cum charging station and parking bay have been established in the Bhagwati Nagar area to support the efficient operation of the e-buses.
